Burial mounds dating back to the Bronze Age

Havupuita mäellä. Näköala kohti merta. Kesä.

Viitanmäki has two large burial mounds dating back to the Bronze Age, and a few smaller barrows. The largest one is called Viitankruunu, and it is 25 x 23 x 3 m in size. The westernmost mound is approximately 11 m in diameter and 1.5 m in height. The mounds are located on the top of a high cliff.

Starting from the parking area, the ancient trail runs along a forest path in the ancient memorial site of Viitankruunu and ends by the three bronze-age barrows. Along the trail there are both lush spruce forests and, higher up, dry heath forests where pine-trees with twisted trunks grow. The area is located on the shore of Halikonlahti Bay, which is a valuable water area for birds. The burial mounds offer an magnificent view over Halikonlahti Bay. The length of the trail is approximately 500 metres in one direction. The historical trail is an intermediate trail and suitable for people of all ages.

The car park and starting point are located at Merikulmantie 255, Salo
